In all of the Star Trek franchise, no single incident has been more discussed, more analyzed, more picked apart than the Battle of Wolf 359. Since the episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation "The Best of Both Worlds, Part II" aired in 1990, it has become the most referred-to battle in the fictional history. Additionally, Trek fandom has produced countless volumes of opinion, supposition, and theory about the battle.

Perhaps it's something about hopeless odds that makes Wolf 359 such an attractive subject - the thought of forty Federation starships being wiped out by a single Borg cube boggles the mind. To that point in the franchise, there had always been times where Starfleet had ALMOST lost so many ships... But this is the first time we actually have them face such losses, AND see the immediate results. It was such a shock to see the "graveyeard" of ships after the battle. Some time later, the opening scenes of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's premiere episode "Emissary" has since provided the only real visual record of the battle, in hurried snippets amidst the story of Sisko's personal tragedy.

And yet, despite all the talk, we never really SAW it outside of a few clips. This is something that Karl Reichert and I wish to rectify for the fandom - a long-term CGI project that will actually reconstruct the Battle of Wolf 359, from beginning to end. It will be a very long undertaking, and we make no illusions of any sort of anticipated release date or progress. It will be done when it's done, and it will be done RIGHT.

Still, this will only ever be one interpretation of how things may have gone. For all the discussion, there will be many blanks to fill in and a lot of artistic and dramatic license will be taken. We will use every source of official data to create as full a record as possible, and then to render a battle scene using as much of it as we can. Some will doubtless find holes in our final product, but we will do as much as possible to fit our work to the known facts.

In the end, we hope to create just what the project title says - a CHRONICLE of the battle, as told by two fans with support from the fandom's body of knowledge. We invite the support and opinion of Star Trek fans to help us realize this dream, and hope that when all is said and done, we will have made something that all fans can enjoy.
